Sheltered from the desert heat, the beauty industry convened in the air-conditioned Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas from July 28-30, 2019 for the 17th installment of Cosmoprof North America (CPNA), the largest B2B beauty exhibition in the Americas.
CPNA 2019 marked another fantastic exhibition. Under the direction of the show's new head of marketing, Liza Rapay, and in partnership with the Professional Beauty Association, the exhibition welcomed more than 40,000 visitors and hosted 1,435 exhibitors representing 43 countries. Retailers, distributors, beauty brands and suppliers from around the world took advantage of the unique opportunity to come together, build relationships and conduct business. This year, the floor was logically organized into three sections: Professional Beauty, Cosmetics & Personal Care and Cosmopack North America, the latter acting as a "show within a show."
The show floor space covered 312,638 square feet of space (up 3% from 2018). Professional Beauty enjoyed solid foot traffic throughout the show where brands launched a host of new innovations and products. Among the many trends present were CBD and other ingredient-driven product lines, sustainable packaging and new technology and innovation. The Cosmetics & Personal Care section was chalk full of special areas including Discover Beauty, Discover Beaut Spotlights, Discover Green, The Beauty Vanities and Tones of Beauty. These areas were among the "buzziest" of the show and featured a great number of indie brands, green beauty across all market segments, fragrance, cosmetics and multicultural products. Across both of the main areas were Country Pavilions from eight different countries, which featured brands that displayed the unique elements and innovation from the various countries represented.
A welcome addition, for the first time CPNA introduced Cosmopack North America, a large section of the show room dedicated to the entire supply chain of the cosmetics industry: contract manufacturing and private label, machinery, primary, and secondary packaging, applicators, ingredients, and raw materials. Cosmopack featured several initiatives including the special curated area for some brand new exhibitors called Discover Pack, a dedicated Buyer Program and the Factory--an activation that recreated the entire manufacturing process of a cosmetic product live, thanks to the participation of a selection of Cosmopack exhibitors. In its first edition at CPNA, Factory produced the Pure Factory clean beauty face highlighter.
For the education component of the show, a series of "Cosmotalks" were held throughout the three-day show. A number of industry experts spoke on relevant business topics for each Cosmotalk, providing added value for attendees.
Looking to next year, for its 18th installment, Cosmoprof North America will be held earlier in the summer and mid-week, June 30-July 2, 2020.
