Wahl Fade It Forward Program Supports Students By Providing Scholarships

In efforts to give back to the community, Wahl education and artistic team member Garland “G-Whiz” Fox and others created the Wahl Fade It Forward Program. The four-week mentorship program is designed to help at-risk youth by giving them a head start on the material covered at His & Hers Barber School. A few months into the program, students Mikayla Harper, Andre Whittington, Quientin Crump, and Sebastian Moore received a full scholarship to His & Hers Barber School, along with a mentor and continued support of UCAN, a Chicago social service organization. The additional partnership with UCAN provides students with transportation and community assistance.

“Wahl really wanted to truly affect people’s lives with this venture. We know that to really succeed in this industry, you need to have a strong foundation. The mentors that Garland and UCAN found for these students are really helping them grow as professionals and people. When you combine the mentorship with the strong school system that His & Hers provides, it gives us high hopes for their future in this awesome industry,” says Lance Wahl, global vice president at Professional Products, Wahl Clipper Corporation.

Having a professional mentor has also played a significant role in the lives of these students. “I have reached out to my mentor for a lot of customer service questions. I had a client that wanted me to do something different than what they had described to me, so they got mad at me. I went back to my mentor and asked them what to do to handle those situations,” says Sebastian Moore.

Thanks to the Fade It Forward program, the students have confidence in completing their education, finding a job in the industry and even becoming mentors themselves. His & Hers has also arranged back-to-school cuts events for children in need to allow their students the opportunity to give back as well.
