On Sunday, September 9, Tom Ford Beauty revealed the launch of 30 new mini lipsticks, which are additions to its Boys and Girls collection, during the brand's Spring/Summer 2019 New York Fashion Week show. Among them is a vivid, cobalt blue lipstick named after rapper Cardi B, simply called "Cardi." Other celebrities received their own shades as well including Armie Hammer, Kaia Gerber and Kendrick Lamar, although they were not the first announced as Cardi B's was.

On her Instagram page, Cardi B shared Tom Ford Beauty’s post with her more than 32 million followers, with a caption that read, “... So excited for this and what’s to come!!” Some have speculated that perhaps it indicates more collaboration with Tom Ford Beauty in the future.

Just 11 hours later, Cardi B posted again to announce that the $36 lipstick was already sold out and apologized to her fans.

The "Cardi" lipstick beauty buying frenzy mirrors similar successes with Rihanna's Fenty Beauty and Kylie Jenner's Kylie Cosmetics, to name a few. Pop stars and in Jenner's case, reality stars, with large social media followings have recently experienced phenomenal success in the beauty industry. And whereas Kylie Cosmetics has been exclusively sold online, the brand will roll out in Ulta Beauty stores by December 2018.
