Mike Nave, founding editor of the Beauty Industry Report, was the surprise honoree at Moroccanoil’s 10th Anniversary Distributor Conference held March 26, 2018 in New York City at the Alexandria Center.
Nave and his wife, Susan Silo, traveled from California to participate in and attend the day-long event. Attendees, including more than 200 distributors, perused exciting Moroccanoil products (including its newest product Color Care) in the reception rooms while enjoying a gorgeous view of the East River.
Moroccanoil cofounders Ofer Tal and Carmen Tal and the company’s new CEO, JuE Wong, took the stage for closing remarks. After thanking conference attendees for their presence, Ofer Tal said, “I would like all of you to know that Moroccanoil would not exist today if it weren’t for our angel and light of Moroccanoil, Michael Nave.” Everyone stood and applauded, creating a memorable moment for Nave. He was then presented with a beautiful silver menorah from the Moroccanoil family commemorating his valued contribution to the company.
Nave grew up in the professional beauty industry working at his family-owned Mercury Distributing in high school, eventually joining its sales forces after earning a B.A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Working side-by-side with his father, Nave eventually became CEO of Mercury Distributing, building it into one of the leading distributors for professional beauty products in the Western United States. When colleagues and manufacturers began tapping Nave’s expertise, he discovered how much he liked sharing his knowledge and connections to help his friends succeed and founded his consulting firm, Mike Nave & Associates. He eventually sold his interest in Mercury to focus on his consultancy. Nave also founded Beauty Store Business, which he later sold to Creative Age Publications and the Beauty Industry Report, a newsletter about the professional beauty industry for senior executives.
