Still riding the wave of success that followed his 2014 album, G I R L, 10-time Grammy-winning singer and producer Pharrell Williams has filed trademarks for a new beauty brand under the names “Girl by Pharrell Williams” and “Pharrell Williams Girl.” The trademarks cover fragrances, skin- and hair care, tanning and personal care products in addition to cosmetics bags, lingerie, luggage, athletic gear, clothing and jewelry. The move has stirred rumors that the rapper/singer will launch a women's beauty line.
Williams previously launched Girl as a unisex fragrance with Comme Des Garcons in 2014, and in 2017 he partnered with Chanel to unveil its new Gabrielle Chanel perfume. Additionally, he already possesses the clothing lines Billionaire Boys Club and Icecream, which are predominantly male-oriented.
This announcement also follows several other recent celebrity venture announcements into the cosmetics industry this year, including tennis player Serena Williams and reality TV stars Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian. Although celebrity cosmetics have seen extraordinary success with the likes of Rihanna's Fenty Beauty, Kim Kardashian's KKW Beauty and Kylie Jenner's Kylie Beauty , celebrity fragrance sales fell by 22 percent in 2017.
