Pam Busiek, president and CEO of Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors (ICMAD), vocalized her support for the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2018 in a statement released on February 25th. ICMAD, a non-profit trade association that has supported the beauty business from startups to established multinational corporations since 1974, continues to advocate for businesses of all sizes on the national stage.

"ICMAD and its more than 800 member-companies support modernization of federal regulation of cosmetics as a means to provide long-term support for American companies' leading role in promoting quality and innovation in the global cosmetics industry,” Busiek said. “We welcome the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions’ (HELP) discussion draft of the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2018 and applaud the bipartisan spirit in which it was developed. We extend our thanks to Senators Alexander and Murray for their leadership in furthering this important work.”

ICMAD will be looking for policies that promote FDA-backed reassurance to customers that “must also give businesses, of all sizes, the guidance and clarity they need to succeed in the cosmetic marketplace and a strong, level foundation for future innovation.” Nationally regulated standards for ingredient safety and good manufacturing practices are also critical components that ICMAD acknowledges as pivotal to the success of the beauty industry.

ICMAD has already begun its review of the draft legislation and plans to provide feedback and comments to HELP by the March 15th deadline.
